Dirk is the bartender you wish all bartenders could be.. experienced and knowledgeable without being an ounce of pretentious or cocky. He’s friendly and warm, but won’t invade your space. He’s creative and spirited, but only wants to make a drink he knows you’ll enjoy. Meet Dirk!
Where are you from and how did you get into bartending?
I am from the lovely Mount Dora, Florida. I started bartending at the age of 19. I was working for a small bar in college barbacking and the head bartender liked my work ethic and took me under her wings. The rest is history.
If you weren’t working in the restaurant industry, what would you be doing?
Other than bartending I own a small interior design company so of course that is what I would be doing. I love design and furniture.
What’s your favorite dish at Whiskey Bird?
I love the soba noodle salad and the Korean rice cakes!
What’s your favorite whiskey and why? Most underrated cocktail?
I am a rye whiskey guy. First off it is classic cocktail whiskey and you can’t go wrong with a properly made rye cocktail. I also think that Japan is doing some great and interesting things in the whiskey world!
Name your go-to Atlanta spots (restaurants, parks, anything).
I have a few go to spots in Atlanta. I love the cocktail programs at AMER in Inman Park and at Biltong Bar in Ponce City Market! Both make fantastic drinks. Also a day time in the botanical gardens you can’t beat!
If you could only listen to one music album for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could listen to one album it would be Chris Stapleton’s first album. You should never ask someone to answer an impossible question! One album!?
What came first, the chicken or the egg?
To close, who cares – they are both delish!!
